I have a Boston Terrier who has had multiple health problems including cataracts, corneal ulcers, mast cell tumors and diabetes insipidus. I have really struggled to keep up with all of this and feel like I was doing what is best for him. My sister recently sent me a copy of Speaking for Spot: Be The Advocate Your Dog Needs to Live a Happy, Healthy, Longer Life by Dr. Nancy Kay who practices in California www.speakingforspot.com. This book is amazing - every dog owner needs it, especially in light of our current economic challenges. JT's veterinarian seemed quite pleased when I went in last week with a list of questions about JT's medications and the testing that had been recommended. From vaccinations to second opinions to cancer diagnosis to tons of specific disease information and lists of questions this book has something for all of us and our pets - from puppies to end of life. Speaking for Spot also has great information about paying for veterinary care and pet insurance. The latter is too late for us with his current medical problems but I will definitely look into it in the future if we should add a 2nd four legged family member. Speaking for Spot is definitely worth checking out. It's given me great peace of mind to feel confident I am making good decisions for him.
